'He tore apart': Swedish media react to Viktor Gyokeres' performance vs Poland

Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres delivered another impressive performance during Sweden’s 3-1 Nations League win over Poland on Monday night.
The 28-year-old has endured a tough spell with the Gunners this season, and he has yet to start a Premier League match, with Kai Havertz preferred by manager Mikel Arteta.
However, this has not hampered his performances with the national side. He scored the winning goal during the 2-1 victory over Romania in the Nations League last week.
Gyokeres also found the back of the net yesterday. He scored with a lovely cushioned volley at the back post to make it 3-1 and put the game beyond Poland’s reach.
Shortly after the victory, the Swedish media praised his performance.
Aftonbladet acknowledged that Gyokeres struggled to impose himself in the opening half but ‘really stepped up’ after the break to score a decisive goal for Sweden.
They wrote: “It took until the second half for Gyokeres to do something on the pitch that was truly noteworthy.
“That was when he made one of those characteristic runs that resulted in a great scoring chance for Sweden.
“Gyokeres kept that momentum going and really stepped up his game. The striker came rushing in at the far post and side-footed the ball in to make it 3–1; he was clearly much more involved after the break.”
Meanwhile, Dagens Nyheter highlighted how Gyokeres carried Sweden to the World Cup with his goal against Poland. They added that the striker ‘tore apart’ the Polish defence once more with his constant runs and eventually closed the game with his sublime goal.
The publication wrote: “Viktor Gyökeres carried Sweden through the spring playoff games and secured the WC spot with his goal against Poland. Now he tore apart the Polish defence with constant runs and finally closed the match by pushing in Walemark’s cross to make it 3-1.”
Gyokeres had a difficult opening half against Poland, but he still made his mark with a vital goal. Aside from his strike, he won an impressive seven duels with three recoveries. The Swede stepped up in Alexander Isak’s injury absence to deliver another fine performance.
Sweden have another two Nations League matches against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Romania before the international break concludes. Gyokeres will no doubt want to start both games. Hopefully, he can continue his scoring form before returning to club duty.
Meanwhile, Havertz picked up a hamstring injury on Nations League duty with Germany and could be a big doubt for the Leeds United game on October 10. Gyokeres could make his first league start of the season for the Gunners based on his brilliant scoring form for Sweden.
