Former Gunner Martinelli Explodes Into Life With 32-Minute Al-Hilal Hat-Trick

Gabriel Martinelli has wasted little time making his mark at Al-Hilal, with the former Arsenal winger scoring a superb 32-minute hat-trick in their emphatic Saudi Pro League victory over Al-Taawoun.

The Brazilian only completed his move away from the Emirates earlier this month, ending a seven-year association with Arsenal, but he has now opened his account for his new club in spectacular fashion.

According to talkSPORT, Martinelli scored his first after 18 minutes, added a second shortly before half-time and completed his hat-trick soon after the restart. The three goals also ended a drought stretching back to February.

Martinelli makes immediate impact in Saudi Arabia

It is certainly one way to introduce yourself properly to a new set of supporters.

Martinelli left Arsenal for around £60million, becoming the club’s record sale, after the Gunners decided this summer was the right time to part ways with the Brazilian.

There has naturally been plenty of debate among Arsenal supporters about how his departure was handled and whether the club should have kept him.

Whatever people think about the decision, it is good to see Martinelli enjoying himself again.

A memorable Arsenal career should not be forgotten

He left North London having made 278 appearances, scoring 62 goals and providing 36 assists during a spell that began when he arrived as a teenager from Ituano in 2019.

His contribution to Arsenal’s rise under Mikel Arteta should not be dismissed simply because his form became less consistent towards the end of his time at the club.

We recently asked whether Arsenal supporters had forgotten just how much Martinelli contributed, and performances like this are a reminder of the quality he can produce when everything clicks.

A hat-trick in barely half an hour is certainly a statement.

Arsenal have moved on and started the new campaign strongly themselves, while Martinelli is beginning a completely different chapter of his career in Saudi Arabia.

There does not have to be a loser in that equation.

For now, it is simply nice to see a player who gave Arsenal seven years of his career enjoying an excellent start to life with his new club.
