Forget Viktor Gyokeres, another Arsenal star was shockingly bad vs Ipswich
Viktor Gyokeres has come under immense criticism for his performance during Arsenal’s win over Ipswich Town.
The Swede has fallen behind Kai Havertz in Mikel Arteta’s pecking order and has played just 12 minutes in the Premier League so far as a result.
Gyokeres wasn’t great against Napoli in the Champions League in his first start of the season, and he was even worse against Ipswich on Tuesday night.
However, another Arsenal player was really poor too at Portman Road.
Eberechi Eze had one of his worst Arsenal games vs Ipswich Town
Eberechi Eze started on the left wing when Arsenal took on Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup.
The England international is at his best when he plays as a number 10, but he is more than good enough to do a job on the left wing.
However, against the Tractor Boys, it just didn’t happen for Eze.
The Arsenal number 10 picked up an assist for Max Dowman’s stunning opener, but apart from that, he barely got anything right in the final third.
In his 76 minutes on the pitch, Eze had 40 touches of the ball and lost possession 10 times. On average, that means he lost the ball every four touches, which is an awful return.
The former Crystal Palace man had just one shot on goal, which was blocked, and he only created one chance in the entire game as well.
Sofascore have given Eze a 6.5/10 rating for his performance against Ipswich – only Viktor Gyokeres, who was rated 6.2, was given a lower score.
We all know Eze is capable of so much more, but so far this season, he simply hasn’t done enough to prove that Arteta must be starting him.
As things stand, the 28-year-old is behind Martin Odegaard in attacking midfield and Christos Tzolis on the left wing, and he is unlikely to get ahead of either one of them in the pecking order.
Eze needs to start making the most of the opportunities he gets. If he doesn’t, we won’t be surprised at all if he is moved on next summer – just like Gabriel Martinelli was earlier this month.
