Football fans rip into Mikel Arteta for what he did during Arsenal v Sunderland, ‘It’s about time’

Arsenal fans might adore Mikel Arteta but it’s safe to say that over the years he has rubbed other club’s supporters up the wrong way.

Arteta’s antics on the touchline, coupled with the insight into some of his ‘different’ training methods, have left some on the outside taking shots at him.

This weekend was no different either.

Arteta was once again pacing up and down the touchline and his technical area. Only this time, referee John Brooks marched over and had seen enough, issuing Arteta with a yellow card.

Bizarrely, Arteta leaned in to put his arms around Brooks but was completely shunned. From there, Arteta lamented the fourth official.

And as expected, the social media pile on has took off.

Mikel Arteta slammed by football fans for touchline behaviour at Sunderland

Mikel Arteta’s touchline behaviour has been questionable for some time, if we are being fair.

His antics have caused plenty of debate, with the team over at TalkSPORT often quick to lay into the Gunners boss for it.

Now, after finally being given a proper ticking off, football fans have decided that it’s about time Arteta was given some punishment.

“He should be booked every game. Good on the ref tho for finally booking him,” one fan wrote on X, while another simply added ‘it’s about time this happened’.

The attempted hug from Arteta also seemed to rile people.

“Going over to try hug him and play it down and getting left hanging is peak,” one fan commented, with another putting, “Glad they are now paying attention….and he tried to hug the ref like he owns the FA…gosh this guy.”

Indeed, the pile on continued as well, with some fans going full on in their comments of Arteta.

“Don’t know what he’s complaining about. You’re not allowed to step outside your technical area. It’s not a difficult rule to comprehend. This is why nobody likes Arteta. It’s not an agenda,” another added.

While finally, one Liverpool fan called for Arteta to be banned!

“It’s gone beyond that, he should be given a touch line ban, they think they are untouchable and have the officials in their pocket.”

Whatever you make of Arteta’s behaviour and the decision yesterday, there has to be an open and honest dialogue that the gaffer does sometimes overstep the mark.

Of course, Arsenal fans love the passion and clearly, it works for the players too.

But this felt like a bit of a turning point and almost like the referees were fighting back. If we see it again soon, then it only confirm that this has become an issue and then, the Gunners boss will need to act.
