Five players could miss Ipswich vs Arsenal as Mikel Arteta faces nervous wait over injury

Arsenal and Ipswich Town could both have players on the sidelines when they meet in the Carabao Cup this week. The Gunners go into the game on the back of an impressive 2-0 victory over Sunderland in the Premier League over the weekend.

Bruno Guimaraes and Bukayo Saka (penalty) scored the decisive goals for Arsenal to see them remain level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table, with both clubs the only two teams to maintain a 100 percent record in the top flight so far.

However, Arsenal and Ipswich are expected to be without some players for the fixture at Portman Road this week.

Arsenal face a wait to discover the extent of a potential injury suffered by Ben White during the win over Sunderland over the weekend.

White started the game at the Stadium of Light, but was substituted at half-time after appearing to be grimacing in pain at various points in the opening 45 minutes.

Arteta did not provide an update on White’s fitness after the win on Wearside, so it remains to be seen if the defender will be available to face Ipswich.

William Saliba remains a long-term absentee for Arsenal with a back injury that he suffered with France during the World Cup.

There is also uncertainty over when Cristhian Mosquera will return to the matchday squad, with the defender still recovering from a muscle injury.

Arteta said last week that he hopes to have Mosquera back available fairly soon. "[Cristhian's] doing really well, let's see if he can get [back] for this game [Sunderland] or the next one,” Arteta said.

Ipswich also have some injury concerns to deal with ahead of the clash against Arsenal, with midfielder Jack Taylor still unavailable with a knee injury.

There is also doubt over whether or not Azor Matusiwa could be available for Ipswich, with the midfielder only recently recovering from a thigh injury.

Ipswich boss Gary O’Neil confirmed last week that Matusiwa is available for minutes, but is not able to start matches just yet.

"Azor will obviously be a little bit longer before he's available to start football matches, but he's ready for minutes now. We can start to get him back in and around matchday squads,” O’Neil said last week, via the Ipswich Star.
