The reason Andrea Berta is under pressure from Arsenal higher-ups before the transfer window shuts

Andrea Berta’s spell as Arsenal’s sporting director has so far, in the main, been a successful one.

Berta has overseen a number of big name signings who have improved the team and ultimately helped the Gunners to become Premier League champions.

There is more work for Berta to do between now and the end of this current window in terms of incomings.

However, it could be Arsenal’s outgoings that form the full judgement and assessment from Arsenal’s board.

One of the big criticisms of Arsenal in recent years has been a seeming lack of ability to get big money for their players.

The transfer sale record still stands at the £35m they got for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain nearly a decade ago and given the quality and size of the club, it’s not a good look.

Indeed, reports are now suggesting that Berta himself is under pressure to raise some funds towards the Arsenal war chest by generating good sales.

Arsenal higher-ups are said to be keen to ensure Berta does job both ways and that includes moving players on and getting good fees.

As of now, there are a number of players who could depart but as yet, nothing has been agreed.

With a week or so of the window left, there are at least some options for Berta to move on.

Reiss Nelson and Fabio Vieira are the two obvious candidates but what sort of money either of those would generate is open to debate.

Beyond that, Man United are still keen on Myles Lewis-Skelly, while Ethan Nwaneri also faces an uncertain end to the window.

At the more expensive end, Viktor Gyokeres is wanted by Barcelona and could bring in a big fee, while Gabriel Martinelli is closing in on a move to Saudi Arabia for around £50m.
