Arsenal Women confirm signing of Elisa de Almeida

Arsenal Women have confirmed the signing of French defender Elisa de Almeida from Paris Saint Germain in a deal worth just over half a million pounds. Arseblog News understands it is a three-year contract. De Almeida will wear the number 5 shirt.

The 28-year-old has been at PSG since 2021 and won the Coup de France Feminine twice, she also has 52 caps for France. Our updated understanding is that Arsenal were always resolved to make an addition at centre-half this summer and with Katie Reid not expected to return from an ACL injury until around November, de Almeida is seen as an experienced option.

De Almeida also has experience of playing at right-back, though with Emily Fox, Smilla Holmberg and Ona Batlle in the squad, centre-half is most likely to be her main position to add to Leah Williamson, Lotte Wubben-Moy and Steph Catley. De Almeida was allowed to play for PSG in their UWCL qualifier against Frankfurt last night as PSG confirmed their qualification for the league phase.

Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley, said: “We’re delighted to have brought Élisa to the club. She’s a highly experienced and versatile centre-back who will strengthen our backline and add further depth ahead of an exciting season ahead.”

Head Coach Renée Slegers added: “We’re very pleased to add Élisa to our squad. Her composure, mobility and experience are all strengths in her game and I look forward to working with her on the training pitch.”
