Exclusive video: Mariona Caldentey speaks to Arseblog News ahead of 2026-27 WSL season

Mariona Caldentey says Arsenal was the only destination for her after deciding to leave Barcelona for the Women’s Super League.
Speaking to Tim Stillman ahead of her third campaign in North London, the Spanish star shared what life has been like in England. She also reflected upon adapting to a deeper central midfield role under Renée Slegers.
“What I like is that I face forward almost all the time,” Caldentey explained.
“You can see everything and play key passes to break lines. But you cannot be as risky. It has been a dilemma in my head trying to play forward without being dangerous for our own team.”
Arsenal believe they have the hunger to reclaim the WSL after last winning the title in 2019. Caldentey says that the squad is focused: “The team this year is really promising, everyone is ready to perform, and that is our goal: to try to win the league.”
