Anthony Elanga explains his Thierry Henry celebration after helping Newcastle beat Tottenham

Anthony Elanga was the hero for Newcastle as they downed Arsenal’s nearest and biggest rivals Tottenham this evening.

Elanga got the crucial opening goal for the Magpies who then added a second through Yoane Wissa to seal the deal in North London.

For Elanga, it means it’s two in two games as he looks to put a wretched season last year behind him.

Of course, Arsenal fans might not have been overly fussed – apart from seeing Spurs lose – about Elanga’s goal but this time, the Swedish winger attracted Arsenal fans’ attention after copying Thierry Henry’s iconic sliding celebration.

And speaking after the game, Elanga explained just why he copied the Gunners legend.

Seeing any player copy Henry is always going to bring back memories of days gone by for Arsenal fans.

Gunners supporters saw the iconic celebration from Henry on countless occasions and explaining why he did it himself, Elanga simply suggested that Henry is his favourite player.

“I’ve always said Thierry Henry is my favourite player, so I knew if I scored today, then that celebration was going to come out,” Elanga explained on Sky Sports.

Naturally, this will delight Arsenal fans and there were plenty of Gunners fan accounts on social media re-posting the quotes.

Speaking humbly, Elanga had it put to him if he carries on he too might end up with a statue like Henry or Newcastle legend Alan Shearer.

However, Elanga shot that talk down, admitting he is miles away from both but still uses the duo as an inspiration for his own game.

As for Arsenal, they face Aston Villa on Monday and could already be six points clear of Tottenham after just two games with a win.
