Arsenal U19s get off to winning start in UEFA Youth League

The UEFA Youth League has often been a rather frustrating competition for Arsenal U19s in terms of results but David Horseman’s side got their campaign off to a winning start yesterday as they beat Napoli 2-1.

It is the first time since 2015 that Arsenal U19s have started the Youth League with a win and it will certainly give them something to build upon in their quest to finally make it beyond the league phase.

Andre Harriman-Annous, who is eligible to play in this competition as an overage player, opened the scoring for Arsenal but there was frustration as Milton Pereyra equalised for Napoli.

However, 14-year-old Luis Munoz, who had entered the fray as a substitute, proved to be the hero with a late winner in stoppage time which was set up by new signing Igor Tyjon.

Munoz already holds the record for being the youngest ever player to feature in the Youth League when he did so against Bayern Munich at the age of 13 last year.

Now Munoz is the second youngest goalscorer in Youth League history – he was just three days older than Max Dowman was when he scored against Atalanta in 2024.

Arsenal U19s will continue their Youth League campaign next month with a home game against Lille.
