Arsenal set to shatter club-record sale as £60m star closes in on Al Hilal move

Arsenal are closing in on a blockbuster deal that could shatter their club-record sale this summer.

According to The Athletic, Gabriel Martinelli is set to join Al Hilal from Arsenal with the clubs close to finalising a €70million (£60m) transfer agreement.

The quoted fee is fully guaranteed and does not include add-ons.

The current record sale for the Gunners stands at £35m, when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain moved to Liverpool in 2017.

Al Hilal have offered Martinelli a lucrative four-year contract, although personal terms are still to be finalised with the Brazilian.

Martinelli arrived at the Emirates as a teenager in 2019, carrying enormous potential but with everything still to prove.

Six years later, he is now edging towards the exit after playing an important role in Arsenal’s historic Premier League triumph.

Manager Mikel Arteta is determined to take Arsenal to another level and wants his squad to compete for every major trophy this season.

There is plenty of appreciation for Martinelli inside the club, but Arsenal also believe his departure could create an opportunity to bring in a significant upgrade on the wing.

Leandro Trossard also departed earlier this summer.

Christos Tzolis already looks like a superb value-for-money addition, but the Gunners are still hungry for another elite attacking talent.

Arsenal have targeted Julian Alvarez as their marquee addition, but the World Cup winner remains determined to secure a move to Barcelona.

Alvarez has already spoken to Arteta and made it clear that he does not want to join Arsenal.

With just two days remaining before the transfer window slams shut, Arsenal may now have to pull off a statement signing to fill the void on the left flank.
