David Ornstein says Arsenal are interested in 'fearless' Liverpool winger

Arsenal are interested in Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha, according to transfer journalist David Ornstein.

The Gunners prioritised strengthening their left flank in this summer’s transfer window but could only sign Christos Tzolis.

They were priced out of a move for Morgan Rogers, who joined Chelsea, while Vinicius Junior rejected the opportunity to join them and instead signed a contract extension at Real Madrid.

With Tzolis being Arsenal’s only natural left-sided attacker, they could sign another right-footed winger in January or next summer.

Ornstein, speaking on The Athletic FC Podcast, claimed that the North London club admired Ngumoha over the summer and still retain an interest in him.

“I think there is some interest from Arsenal in Rio Ngumoha. There’s interest from a lot of clubs in him. I did hear over the summer that Arsenal like him.

“They are allowed to like him… it doesn’t mean Liverpool will sell him. They want to renew his contract; he’s tied down until the summer of 2028.

“I don’t know of an agreement yet on a new deal, so clearly that is something they will try to progress. They have some interest in him, but I guess we have to wait and see what happens with him and Liverpool because there is no suggestion that he’s unhappy there.”

Ngumoha, described by Liverpool loanee Harvey Elliott as ‘fearless‘, has had a slow start to the season after a promising breakthrough campaign last term.

The Reds initially planned to deploy him on the right flank following Bradley Barcola’s arrival.

However, they appear to have abandoned that plan after he struggled to impress there in their opening Premier League game at Newcastle United.

Liverpool are keen to extend the two years remaining on Ngumoha’s contract but could consider selling him if they fail to make progress in negotiations.

Arsenal should put themselves in a good position to secure his services if Liverpool eventually decide to sell him, although a move could be difficult.

The Merseyside giants may be reluctant to sell him to a Premier League rival.

The Gunners would also have to persuade the English youngster that he would get enough game time if he joined the club, particularly if Tzolis continues to impress.
