Mikel Arteta has another undroppable in £34m Arsenal star, poised to start vs Sunderland
Arsenal continued their bright start to the campaign with a 1-0 win over Napoli in the Champions League opener on Wednesday night.
The Gunners were thoroughly dominant against the Serie A outfit yesterday and could have easily won 4-0 or 5-0 with the big chances they created (six in total).
Martin Odegaard was splendid with his creativity in the final third, and the Norwegian eventually scored the winner with a fabulous strike from the edge of the box in the 75th minute.
The goal was created by Tzolis, who came off the bench to replace Eberechi Eze. Despite being a left winger, the Greek made himself available centrally to link up with Odegaard.
Odegaard scored his fourth goal of the season with a powerful strike. It was the third occasion that Tzolis has assisted the Gunners’ captain during the ongoing campaign.
Meanwhile, Eze got his first start of the season on the left wing ahead of Tzolis yesterday. Barring his header for Mikel Merino’s early chance, the Englishman struggled to impose himself.
Tzolis made an immediate impact off the bench, replacing him, and in our opinion, he has become a new undroppable figure in attack under manager Mikel Arteta based on his early-season impact.
Arteta has Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz as nailed-on league starters in the final third, and we believe Tzolis has established himself too on the back of four assists in his first five appearances.
The £34 million signing has been a revelation for the Gunners since the start of pre-season. He had a reality check at Aston Villa but has responded brilliantly since with assists against Chelsea and Napoli.
Hence, Tzolis should be an assured starter on the left wing when Arsenal take on Sunderland in Saturday’s Premier League game at the Stadium of Light. The Gunners will be aiming to beat the Black Cats at the stadium, having dropped points through a late 2-2 draw last season.
