Edu snubbed Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at Arsenal years ago, now Andrea Berta has made a similar mistake

Arsenal could fill a book on the players they have missed out on over the years.
Arsene Wenger has shared many stories of coming close to signing players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and N’Golo Kante among others.
Even Mikel Arteta hasn’t always managed to land some of his targets during his time at the club, and it hurts when you see those players firing for other teams.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is one such player, and there’s now another one.
Arsenal repeated their Khvicha Kvaratskhelia mistake with Mika Godts
Arsenal are yet to get their attacking recruitment right under Arteta.
The Gunners have signed plenty of strikers and wingers over the years, but none of them have been truly world-class.
In that period, Arsenal have missed out on many potential superstars, and Kvaratskhelia was one of them.
Before he became a household name at Napoli, the Georgia international was scouted by the Gunners and spoken about during recruitment meetings.
In the end, it was decided that he wasn’t worth the gamble, and Edu Gaspar signed Marquinhos instead of Kvaratskhelia.
That decision still stings because the 25-year-old is now arguably the best winger in world football. Unai Emery even tipped Kvaratskhelia for the Ballon d’Or recently.

Arsenal fans don’t want such a mistake to be repeated again, but we think Andrea Berta has done something similar.
Back in April, the Gunners sent scouts to watch Mika Godts when Ajax faced NAC Breda in the Eredivisie.
The Belgium international was the star of the show in that game, scoring a screamer and assisting another in a 2-0 win.
Godts finished last season with 17 goals and 15 assists in all competitions and was one of the best players in the Dutch top flight.
Arsenal clearly did their work on Godts, and we think he would’ve been an incredible signing for Arteta’s side in this window.
However, Berta appears to have let him slip.

€55m deal signed also by the clubs, PSG and Ajax. Medical done, all completed.

Godts has signed for European champions Paris Saint-Germain in a €55 million (£47m) deal, and an announcement is expected imminently.
Under Luis Enrique, we expect the 21-year-old to become a superstar in a few years, and like with Kvaratskhelia, Arsenal will end up regretting their decision to not make a move for him.
