Arsenal hold medical ahead of Blackburn Rovers signing

Arsenal have spent well over a year now in pursuit of Blackburn Rovers youth striker Igor Tyjon, but the saga appeared to finally reach a conclusion on Friday.

RoversXtra reported for Medium on Friday morning that Rovers had agreed a deal to sell Tyjon to Arsenal, with a medical scheduled for that afternoon.

According to the report, the total package is worth £3.2m, with £1.2m upfront and the rest in add-ons. There’s also reportedly a 20% sell-on clause in the deal.

James McNicholas and Nnamdi Onyeagwara confirmed for The Athletic later in the morning that Arsenal had agreed a deal to sign Tyjon, and that the player was set to hold his medical that same day.

Simon Jones confirms for the Daily Mail that the fee is in the region of £3m, with roughly £1m upfront.

Tyjon had effectively submitted a transfer request this week, with Alan Nixon reporting that the player had formally asked his club to de-register him.

At the time, the case was set to go before an independent panel – the Professional Football Negotiating and Consultative Committee. The process was expected to take several weeks.

Fortunately, the news of an agreement between the two clubs suggests such action will no longer be necessary.

Tyjon scored seven goals and assisted two in 21 appearances for the Blackburn Rovers youth teams in 2025/26, with his minutes inconsistent and limited as an apparent result of his refusal to sign professional terms with the club.

The 18-year-old also made an appearance for Rovers’ senior side in the League Cup, and he made the bench for an FA Cup match against Hull City, as well as three Championship games.

Assuming the formalities are completed without issue, Tyjon is now set to continue his development with the Arsenal u21s.
