Martin Odegaard shares his instant verdict on Bruno Guimaraes' display after Arsenal thrash Man City

Bruno Guimaraes produced a fantastic performance to help Arsenal beat Manchester City in the Community Shield.

Mikel Arteta signed the Brazil international from Newcastle United earlier this summer, and he already showed his quality in the friendly against Como.

However, in the 45 minutes he played against Manchester City, Guimaraes was on another level and ran the show in the middle of the park.

Martin Odegaard has now had his say on his new midfield partner.

Martin Odegaard showers praise on Bruno Guimaraes after Arsenal beat Manchester City

Odegaard was our Man of the Match in Arsenal’s Community Shield win over Manchester City.

The skipper was outstanding in his usual number 10 role. He was involved in almost everything and even scored a brilliant goal.

Odegaard deserves all the praise in the world, but the Norwegian hailed Bruno Guimaraes for how well he has settled in since his arrival.

Speaking after the game, he said, as per Football London: “I think he has been unbelievable since the first moment.

“He has come in here and feels like such a natural part of the team, although we had some big fights in the past.

“He has been such a natural part of the team, and you see his quality on the pitch: He is so good on the ball, but he is also a fighter, and he wins the ball.”

Guimaraes only played the first half, but he was almost flawless in that period. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come.

Arsenal have a Bruno Guimaraes injury worry

It was a surprise to see Guimaraes replaced by Declan Rice at half-time.

After watching how good he was in the first half, we were really excited to see him come out and do it again, but Arteta took him off.

We don’t know the official reason why, but cameras showed Guimaraes with an ice pack strapped around his thigh as he came out of the Arsenal dressing room after half-time.

That is very worrying after his first competitive game, but the Brazilian looked in good spirits while lifting the Community Shield trophy, so we hope his withdrawal was just precautionary.
