Ethan Nwaneri explains how his failed Marseille move actually helped him, ‘It’s much easier now’
Ethan Nwaneri will spend the season with Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal fans will be keen to see just how he performs in Germany.
Nwaneri was expected to be part of Mikel Arteta’s squad this season but the club has seen it fit to send him out on loan to Dortmund.
The Bundesliga club have done well with young talents over the years, with Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland two standouts, and Bellingham’s brother Jobe currently on the books there too.
Of course, Nwaneri will be hoping his spell in Germany goes better than his one with Marseille. However, while that move to France was a failure in many ways, Nwaneri himself believes it’s actually helped him.

Nwaneri will be hoping to make a big splash in Germany and while he is still so young, it feels like a big season for him.
Last season while in France, Nwaneri suffered as part of a Marseille side who had other issues ongoing.
But speaking to The Sun, Nwaneri feels it’s made his move to Dortmund easier.
“It’s much easier now. The first time, you’re really leaving your comfort zone. It’s just uncharted territory,” Nwaneri admitted.
“But now I’m more relaxed, more open, and mentally better prepared. I know what to expect by now.
“Both [the Emirates and Villa Park] are definitely special places. Quite a few teams in England find it challenging to play there.
“The atmosphere is great at both stadiums. I’m sure they’ll be two really good matches. We have to be ready.”
A make or break season for Ethan Nwaneri?
It might feel harsh to suggest but there is a reality with Nwaneri that he needs to show something and show it consistently to take the next step.
We have all seen the talent he has. Both with Arsenal at times and with the England squads and younger teams he’s been involved with.
He is still only 19 and very much in the infancy of his career. However, a player of this talent, who made his debut as a 15-year-old, would be expected to kick on now.
Dortmund feels like a golden chance for him. Impress and he could either come back to Arsenal as a first-team player, or failing that, he gets a move to Dortmund and continues over there.
Mikel Arteta will be keeping a close eye but it feels like Nwaneri has to impress or face further question marks.
