Ethan Nwaneri hints he could solve Arsenal's big problem after leaving on loan
Arsenal wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri has joined Borussia Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the 2026/27 season.
It was always likely that the teenager would leave the Gunners this summer – the only question was whether it would be on loan or on a permanent deal.
Arsenal fans were desperate for Nwaneri not to be sold, and the decision-makers at the Emirates seem to have heard their supporters.
Now, Nwaneri has made a comment that we found really interesting.
Ethan Nwaneri suggests he could play in Arsenal’s problem position
Ethan Nwaneri is one of Arsenal’s most versatile players.
The 19-year-old is an attacking midfielder by trade, but he has featured on the right wing as well as a left-sided number eight.
Mikel Arteta has even backed Nwaneri to play as a striker, which would be really exciting.
Now, after joining Borussia Dortmund, the Arsenal academy graduate was asked to name his favourite position, but he couldn’t pick one.

Nwaneri claimed he can play anywhere across the front four positions, which are striker, number 10, right wing and left wing. The latter is Arsenal’s problem position.
He told Borussia Dortmund’s official website: “My favourite role… I think any of the four attacking positions suit me.
“The main thing is to be somewhere in the attack, with the goal close by. I like being close to the goal. I like being part of the build-up play. Whether on the wings or in the centre.
“I don’t think there’s one position I prefer over the others. I really enjoy playing in any of these attacking positions and look forward to it.”
Ethan Nwaneri could solve Arsenal’s left-wing problem in January
Arsenal have just Christos Tzolis as their natural left winger.
Yes, Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke and even Bukayo Saka can play there, but all three players are better suited to their natural positions.
If Arsenal find themselves in trouble on the left flank in the first half of the campaign, they could easily solve it.
That’s because there is a recall clause in Nwaneri’s loan deal which allows the Gunners to bring him back in January.
We don’t know how well the youngster can play as a left-winger, but it is definitely an option to consider in the winter window.
