The huge amount in wages Arsenal will save by selling Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli

It might feel like the end of an era for Arsenal’s Brazilian contingent in the coming weeks but when it comes to the financials, it’s easy to see why Arsenal are moving on.

The Gunners are expected to sanction a number of exits in the week leading up to the transfer window closing, with both Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus among them.

Jesus is wanted by Napoli while Martinelli is set to sign a huge contract with Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.

To some, it might seem harsh for Arsenal to be moving two key players on just months after they won the Premier League title.

But when we look at the money being saved, there are huge savings to be had.

Massive wages are just commonplace now at the top teams in Europe and especially the Premier League.

However, when it comes to Martinelli and Jesus, there is a massive amount to be saved for Arsenal.

Jesus remains one of the club’s top earners on around £265,000-a-week, meaning any deal to sell him will save Arsenal around £10m-a-year just on salary alone.

As for Martinelli, his new contract a few seasons ago saw him net around £180,000-a-week, meaning Arsenal are paying the forward north of £5m-a-season.

Needless to say, this is a huge saving for the Gunners and while some will look at what is being spent or may potentially get spent, these figures add up to help.

Put simply, selling both Martinelli and Jesus will pay for the wages that a top player like Julian Alvarez might command.

So, while it might seem harsh on paper to sell two key players of the Mikel Arteta, there is a bigger picture being considered as well.
