Big blow for Arsenal with 27yo star substituted after possible hamstring injury

Arsenal striker Kai Havertz picked up a possible hamstring injury during Germany’s Nations League clash against the Netherlands in Amsterdam.

The 27-year-old has had a brilliant start to the campaign with the Gunners, and he has already netted three goals across all competitions.

Havertz linked up with his national side earlier this week and got the nod to start against the Netherlands tonight. His appearance was short-lived.

The Gunners ace was initially the subject of a poor challenge from midfielder Quinten Timber. The Dutchman made contact with Havertz’s knee.

However, that wasn’t the reason for his substitution. Havertz’s left hamstring was heavily strapped too, and he pointed towards the same to the medical staff.

Havertz was eventually substituted in the 30th minute, and his injury is undoubtedly a huge blow for the Gunners when the season resumes next month.

The former Chelsea man has been Arsenal’s undisputed starter upfront in the Premier League. He has been in sparkling form for the Gunners thus far.

Arsenal don’t return to action until October 10 against Leeds United in the league, but the German now faces a race against time to be fit for the game.

Havertz will undergo a medical examination in the next 24 hours, which could determine the extent of the damage sustained playing against the Netherlands.

His potential absence for Arsenal would mean that Viktor Gyokeres could lead the line next month.

The Swede has hardly played in the league this term, with just 29 minutes in two appearances. He may finally get the chance to start after Havertz’s setback.
