Ben Jacobs shares what he’s been told about Arsenal’s compensation claim as Man City found guilty

Manchester City’s ongoing situation will have huge ramifications across the Premier League in the coming days, weeks, months and even years.

City have been found guilty on 114 counts of breaching Premier League rules, and punishment is headed their way.

There has been talk of Man City being stripped of titles, while there’s also talk of rival clubs receiving compensation for missed earnings over the years.

Arsenal are one of the teams that could make such a claim, and according to Ben Jacobs, speaking on the Highbury Squad, Arsenal are in fact the one team that is driving this more than any other.

Arsenal really driving compensation claim vs Man City

According to Jacobs, there are four Premier League clubs that have already reserved the rights to seek damages from Man City if they are indeed found guilty after an appeal process.

Interestingly, Jacobs says he’s heard that Arsenal are the one team that is really driving this movement ahead of any others.

“But then you have to remember that only four clubs we know of have actually reserved the right to seek damages from Manchester City if subject to an appeal, they’re guilty.

And that’s Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United. So you get to a point where because of the length it’s taken, some of the ability to claim compensation becomes time barred, which is why letters were written, including from Arsenal. In fact, I was told Arsenal were driving this move in order to ensure they reserve their legal right, regardless of how long this goes on.”

Arsenal are well within their rights to make this point – in our view, the Gunners may have eight viable complaints to make, and the financial payout here could be hefty.

Of course, there’s still a long way to run in this saga, but, by the sounds of it, Arsenal aren’t going to back off here anytime soon.
