Player Arsenal signed in 2025 was offered to other clubs this summer

It was a busy transfer window for Arsenal this summer, particularly for outgoings.

Gabriel Martinelli’s club-record £60million sale was confirmed on Thursday, taking Arsenal’s total income to around £120million.

Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Fabio Vieira, Christian Norgaard and Reiss Nelson all left permanently, while Ethan Nwaneri went out on loan.

Arsenal fans were worried at one point in the window when reports came out suggesting Myles Lewis-Skelly had been offered out to Chelsea and Manchester United.

It has since been revealed by Hand of Arsenal that super agent Kia Joorabchian was involved in that situation.

But it seems Lewis-Skelly wasn’t the only player offered out through intermediaries.

Cristhian Mosquera was offered out late in the transfer window

According to James Benge, speaking on his YouTube channel, Cristhian Mosquera was offered to clubs by intermediaries late in the transfer window.

“I heard that Cristhian Mosquera was offered out by intermediaries,” Benge said. “Now that may not be by Arsenal.

But I heard that intermediaries suggested that they might be able to help clubs do a deal for Cristhian Mosquera.”

As Benge is keen to point out there, the noise may not have come from Arsenal directly. But there was a weird pattern this summer that is hard to ignore.

The Lewis-Skelly stuff, the Viktor Gyokeres-Barcelona noise, and even the strange rumblings early in the window about Martin Odegaard being offered to Galatasaray.

Andrea Berta is said to lean heavily on intermediaries and agents when structuring deals, rather than conducting club-to-club negotiations.

That is an approach which caused tension with Newcastle and Aston Villa for the Bruno Guimaraes and Ezri Konsa deals, respectively.

It was reported that even Josh Kroenke had to personally step in to get the Konsa deal sorted.

You have to question what role Berta might have played in these examples of players being offered out through agents.

Selling Cristhian Mosquera would have been a mistake

Mosquera has been a great squad player since he was signed from Valencia for just £13million last summer.

The 22-year-old has filled in for William Saliba seamlessly across Arsenal’s opening three games (including the Community Shield) without conceding a single goal.

With Saliba out for months, he is going to be really important, sharing centre-back minutes with Konsa and Gabriel.

He can also cover at right-back if Arsenal find themselves in another situation where both Ben White and Jurrien Timber are out injured.

Mosquera limped off against Villa and has missed training since, making Konsa the likely starter against Chelsea.

But once fit, Mikel Arteta will need him. The two-games-a-week schedule is around the corner.

There is a chance he will be flipped for a profit next summer — surely he is worth at least £30million now.

But this season, he is needed. Whoever was offering him around clearly didn’t get that memo.
