Mikel Arteta has an Arsenal weapon to totally shut down Morgan Rogers vs Chelsea
All eyes will be on Morgan Rogers when Arsenal take on Chelsea on Sunday.
The former Aston Villa man was at the centre of a transfer battle between the Gunners and the Blues in the summer. Xabi Alonso’s side won the race in the end when they agreed to pay £117 million for him.
Arsenal then failed to get a big-name attacker in the window, and there must be some regret about failing to land Rogers now.
As for the Englishman, we’re sure he would love to show Mikel Arteta what he missed out on, but the Gunners boss may have a weapon to completely shut him down.
Mikel Arteta could turn to Ezri Konsa to stop Morgan Rogers
Morgan Rogers is one of the most exciting attackers in the Premier League.
The new Chelsea signing has all the qualities that you want from an attacking player, and he has the ability to win games for the Blues.
Arsenal have a lot to worry about on Sunday because of Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro’s brilliance, and Rogers makes things even more difficult.
However, Arteta may have an equaliser in Ezri Konsa.
The English defender knows everything there is to know about Rogers, having trained with him at Aston Villa and in the England camp countless times.
Arsenal’s other defenders are more than capable of dealing with Rogers too, but Konsa will definitely have an edge because of his experience.
With Cristhian Mosquera missing training and potentially out of the game, we expect Konsa to make his first start in Arsenal’s colours next to Gabriel Magalhaes.
If he can shut down Rogers and Chelsea’s other attackers, he will become an instant hit among Arsenal supporters.
Morgan Rogers has already delivered his verdict on Ezri Konsa
Konsa has always been regarded as a very good centre-back, but he never really comes up in the conversation of the best defenders in the Premier League.
Rogers thinks that is not fair.
Having trained against him multiple times, the Chelsea man claimed earlier this summer that Konsa is right up there with the elite and is severely underrated.
When asked if he gets enough credit, Rogers said, as per Birmingham Live: “No, nowhere near. I think he’s one of the best centre-backs in football, if I’m honest, I think at this World Cup.
“I think the ability that he’s got, he can do everything as a centre-back, never gets beaten in the air, strong in the tackle, unbelievable on the ball.
“Honestly, I don’t know a flaw in his game, and I think that’s helped Villa that probably a bigger club has not taken him in the last few years. I think that’s helped us, because I honestly don’t know a problem in his game, really.
“It’s nice that he gets the recognition and he can compete on the world stage, and everyone can see how good he actually is. I think he does go under the radar massively and in these conversations of the best centre-backs, he is right up there.”
