Arteta hints he now knows the best position for Eze
Eberechi Eze started Arsenal’s match against Ipswich Town on the left wing and performed well, allowing the Gunners to provide Christos Tzolis with a much-needed rest.
Since arriving at the club in the summer, Tzolis has been one of the first names on the team sheet in every Arsenal game and has worked extremely hard for the team. His consistency has made him an important player on the left side.
The Greek star has also made it easier for Arsenal to move on from the players who occupied that position during the previous few seasons. Eze is viewed as an alternative option for the role after the Gunners failed to sign Vinicius Junior.
Eze Ready To Compete
Eze would have expected to become the starter after the previous two players in that position left the club, but he still has to fight for his place. His performance against Ipswich showed that he is ready to compete for regular opportunities.
The England international also needs to establish himself on the left because opportunities could be limited if he plays through the middle. Arsenal have several players competing for positions centrally, making the wing an important route for Eze to secure more playing time.
His display against Ipswich therefore encouraged as Arsenal prepare for their next fixture. Eze has shown that he can contribute effectively from the left, giving Mikel Arteta another option in that area.
Arteta Praises Eze On The Left
Ahead of the Brighton game, Arteta spoke about Eze’s preferred position and explained why he believes the winger is comfortable operating from the left. The Arsenal manager also pointed to the significant moments Eze has produced from that area during his career.
Speaking to Arsenal Media, Arteta said:
“He’s always played there in his career, that’s where all his biggest moments in his career and the highlights of his career have come.
“I think it’s a place that he feels very, very, very comfortable. He can occupy different spaces, but that’s the space that generally he has created big moments for previous clubs as well to win matches.”
Eze will now hope his performance against Ipswich earns him another opportunity from the start. With Tzolis needing rest and Arsenal competing across several competitions, having another reliable option on the left could prove valuable for Arteta.
