Arsenal will ‘approve’ January exit for £60m signing and Myles Lewis-Skelly is a key reason

Arsenal have quite the squad at the moment and that means big name and expensive players are not even getting a look in.

Mikel Arteta has managed to assemble such a strong unit that he’s being forced into leaving out players who he has asked the board to spend big money on.

One of those in that current situation is World Cup winning midfielder and £60m signing, Martin Zubimendi.

Zubimendi is down the pecking order right now and Bruno Guimaraes’ arrival hasn’t helped him either.

However, when we look closer, it’s actually the emergence and form of Myles Lewis-Skelly that may now lead to a January exit for Zubimendi.

According to reports from Spain, Arsenal are apparently ready to sanction the exit of Zubimendi in January, with Real Madrid wanting to sign him.

Zubimendi, of course, will have an eye on Madrid himself given the status of the club and his nationality.

However, when all is said and done, you have to say that if it wasn’t for Myles Lewis-Skelly then Zubimendi’s future wouldn’t even be up for debate.

Instead, we’ve seen Lewis-Skelly firmly assert himself in the Arsenal midfield this season. His form at the back-end of last term was a big bonus for Mikel Arteta and ‘MLS’ has simply continued that.

With the signing of Bruno Guimaraes, many expected Lewis-Skelly to slip down the order.

However, it is Lewis-Skelly who has stepped up and is keeping his place. That, in turn, has ensured Zubimendi and others like Eberechi Eze and Max Dowman are struggling to get a look in either.

Ultimately, this allows Arsenal flexibility in the market and should they wish to allow Zubimendi to leave, the squad won’t actually look that much weaker.

In essence, Arsenal have brought a £70m midfielder through their own academy.
