Arsenal ‘step up’ interest in Bundesliga star but face competition from Tottenham again

Arsenal and Tottenham might have had contrasting starts to the season but when it comes to making signings, they seem to be clashing.
Just this summer gone, Tottenham landed both Sandro Tonali and Matheus Fernandes ahead of the Gunners, while Arsenal themselves got a deal done for Bruno Guimaraes despite Spurs’ interest.
On the surface, Arsenal are the more attractive proposition for new players.
But while the Gunners are very much on top right now, they’re still set to face competition from Spurs again. This time, for one of Germany’s best up and coming young players.
Arsenal want to sign Ibrahim Maza but Tottenham also keen
Ibrahim Maza has emerged as one of the top talents in Germany in recent seasons.
His form for Bayer Leverkusen at just 20 has seen some of Europe’s biggest and best clubs send scouts to watch the youngster.
However, according to TeamTalk, it is Arsenal who are stepping up their pursuit of the young Algerian winger.
Maza’s appeal for the Gunners is an ability to play in both wide positions as well as in the number ten if needed. With Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard both sold alongside Gabriel Jesus this summer, Arsenal have a gap in that area of the pitch.
Maza has already registered a goal and two assists this season and for Algeria, he has already breached the 20-cap mark, adding three goals.
Whether or not Arsenal plan on making a move for Maza in January or beyond, remains unknown.
However, with Spurs and others also keen, Andrea Berta knows he will need to move quickly to land one of Europe’s brightest gems.
