Arsenal 'reach agreement' with Mikel Arteta as Gunners boss set for pay rise

Mikel Arteta is expected to sign a new deal with Arsenal, keeping him at the club beyond the end of his current deal, which expires at the end of this season.
Arsenal and Arteta have been locked in talks over a new contract for a number of months. It was understood earlier this month that an agreement between the two parties was close.
football.london understands that Arteta has verbally agreed to extend his contract at Emirates Stadium, although there are still formalities to complete before an announcement is made. The length of the deal is not known at this stage, but his previous renewal, signed in 2024, solidified his stay for an additional two years.

It is therefore expected that the new deal could see his stay extend to at least 2029, close to the ten-year mark following his appointment in December of 2019.
He is expected to be rewarded for helping the side win the Premier League with an increased salary from the current £10million per-season plus £5m in bonuses he is earning right now.
Speaking about his contract talks, Arteta said last week: "They [the fans] don't have to worry about any of that because I want to be here. I'm extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with."
Meanwhile, Arsenal co-chairman Josh Kroenke made it clear at the start of June that the club would do everything they could to ensure Arteta remained in north London.

Shortly after the Gunners won the Premier League, the American said: "Keeping Mikel around is [an] utmost priority. I think the good news for Arsenal fans worldwide is he's enjoying the project. He's enjoying being here and from his time as a player all the way up until now, he's an Arsenal man through and through."
Kroenke added: "If there is a singular person you can trace this all back to, I'm going to give 100 per cent credit to Mikel, his staff and the players. Those are the ones. As much as Mikel is putting together our tactics, the players have got to go play the games, they've got to go and win for you."
Last season, Arteta helped Arsenal end their 22-year wait for a Premier League title as they were crowned champions with one game to spare. As well as that, the Gunners lost on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final and came close to winning the Carabao Cup before losing to Manchester City in the final.
Arsenal have started this campaign well, though they did suffer their first defeat by being thrashed 3-0 at Brighton on Saturday. It's a result that leaves them second in the top flight going into the first international break.
