Arsenal make key executive appointment as club plans for sustained success

Arsenal have appointed Omar Shaikh as the club’s first Chief Revenue Officer as the Premier League champions continue strengthening their senior commercial operation.

Shaikh has been promoted to the newly-created position after three years at Arsenal and will also become a member of the club’s Executive Team.

His expanded responsibilities will cover several of Arsenal’s major revenue-generating departments, including partnerships, ventures, retail and commercial venue operations.

The appointment represents another significant step for Shaikh, who initially joined Arsenal in 2023.

He was tasked with developing the club’s commercial partnerships portfolio before taking responsibility for the broader partnerships and ventures operation in 2024.

Arsenal say Shaikh will now be responsible for driving further revenue growth to support the club’s ambitions of competing for major trophies.

The club also stressed that supporters will remain central to its approach as Shaikh assumes greater responsibility for the commercial operation.

His promotion arrives at an important period for Arsenal both commercially and on the pitch.

The Gunners won their first Premier League title in 22 years last season and also reached the Champions League final, marking another significant step in the club’s resurgence under Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal have carried that momentum into the new campaign, winning their opening six matches across all competitions.

The club’s increased competitiveness has been accompanied by efforts to develop its operations away from the pitch, with partnerships representing an important part of that strategy.

Shaikh has already played a prominent role in that area since arriving in north London, helping to expand Arsenal’s portfolio of commercial partners before his responsibilities were widened last year.

His latest promotion means those responsibilities will extend considerably further.

Bringing partnerships, ventures, retail and commercial venue operations under his remit gives Shaikh influence over several areas through which Arsenal can support their continued development.

The appointment also comes as the club examine ways to make their wider operation more efficient.

Arsenal are reportedly working with Boston Consulting Group on a review that could identify potential cost savings, although there has been no indication that the process will affect investment in the playing squad.

Shaikh’s appointment therefore provides another element of Arsenal’s broader off-field planning as they attempt to build an operation capable of supporting sustained success.

The challenge is no longer simply returning Arsenal to the top of English football after last season’s breakthrough.

Maintaining that position requires the club’s commercial operation to develop alongside Arteta’s team, particularly as Arsenal seek to compete consistently for the Premier League and Champions League.

Shaikh will now have a significant role in that process after becoming the first Chief Revenue Officer in Arsenal’s history.
