Arsenal handed brutal fixture pile-up as Mikel Arteta gets favour in Carabao Cup draw

Arsenal have been handed an even busier fixture list thanks to their progression to the next round of the Carabao Cup. However, the fourth-round draw has potentially handed Mikel Arteta a favour during the upcoming run of games.

The Gunners claimed a 4-2 win over Ipswich Town on Tuesday night to book their place in the fourth round of the competition.

The win means that Arsenal remain in the competition and will have ambitions of going one better than last season, where they reached the final but lost to the winners, Manchester City.

The fourth round draw was made for the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening, and Arsenal have learned that they face an away trip to Fleetwood Town.

As a result, Arsenal will now play six games in October, with an away trip to Liverpool in the Premier League on November 1.

After facing Brighton in the Premier League this weekend, the extended international break will kick in, meaning Arsenal will not have a game for three weeks.

Once the international break is over, though, Arsenal face a busy fixture schedule for the weeks that follow, with matches taking place across three competitions.

Arsenal will begin their run on October 10, where they will host Leeds United in the Premier League in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off (12.30pm).

After that, the Gunners will host Lille in their second Champions League fixture of the season three days later (October 13), before travelling to face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League that weekend (October 18).

An away trip to Bayern Munich will follow for Arsenal on October 21 in the Champions League, before the Gunners return to the Emirates Stadium for a league match against Everton three days later (October 24).

Arsenal will then face Fleetwood Town in midweek after taking on the Toffees, with the exact date still to be confirmed, but it will likely be between October 27 and 29.

What may hand Arteta a favour during this run, though, is that the tie against Fleetwood could give Arsenal the chance to rest key players amid the busy run of games.

Arsenal will then face Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on November 1 to complete the busy sequence of matches.
