Arsenal have been handed a fresh update on the fitness of Christos Tzolis, with one Greek club issuing a statement about a player replacing the Gunners star. Tzolis suffered a suspected hamstring injury during Greece’s 2-2 draw with the Netherlands in the Nations League and faces a potential spell on the sidelines.

As reported by football.london, Tzolis could be on the sidelines for around 15 to 20 days after suffering the injury on Thursday evening in Thessaloniki.

Tzolis joined Arsenal in the summer in a deal worth around £34million and has provided four assists across his first eight appearances for the club.

The Arsenal star lasted just 18 minutes in Greece’s match against the Netherlands before being substituted, and has now been withdrawn from the national team’s squad.

Greek club PAOK have issued a statement confirming that Dimitris Pelkas has been called up to the national team’s squad for their final Nations League fixture next week.

“Dimitris Pelkas has been called up to the Greek National Team for the big game against Germany, which will be held on Sunday in Toumba,” PAOK wrote in a post on social media.

Arsenal now face a wait to discover how long Tzolis could be unavailable for, with the Premier League set to return after the extended international break next week.

As football.london has already reported, the Gunners are reluctant to put an exact timeframe on when Tzolis could be available once again, with the club instead planning to assess his fitness when he returns to the UK.

Tzolis had enjoyed an impressive international break with Greece before suffering the injury, scoring in a 2-1 victory over Serbia and providing the assist for the winning goal in a 1-0 win over Jurgen Klopp’s Germany.

The 24-year-old will now return to London Colney over the coming days, where he will be assessed by the Arsenal medical team.

Kai Havertz also handed Arsenal an injury scare during the international break, after suffering a fitness issue during Germany’s draw with the Netherlands last week.

Arsenal return to Premier League action on Saturday, October 10, where they will host Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium.
