Arsenal fans make their feelings clear about Benjamin Sesko as Viktor Gyokeres' struggles
Viktor Gyokeres has become the most criticised player in the Arsenal squad.
The Swede came under fire in his debut season as a Gunner as well, but he scored over 20 goals and helped them win the Premier League title.
This season, Gyokeres hasn’t started a game in the league yet, and his latest performance against Ipswich Town was nowhere near good enough.
That has led to some fans looking back at how Benjamin Sesko was Mikel Arteta’s preferred striker target. Andrea Berta was the one who chose Gyokeres in the end.

Arsenal fans are glad they didn’t sign Benjamin Sesko
Many Arsenal fans wanted Benjamin Sesko in 2024 and 2025, but for one reason or another, they couldn’t get him.
Since then, there has been a debate over whether the Slovenian would’ve been a better signing than Viktor Gyokeres.
After watching Sesko against Brighton on Wednesday night, Arsenal fans have made up their mind.
One tweeted: “Is this the nine who was supposed to be better than Gyokeres? LOL!”
Another wrote: “Don’t ever compare Gyökeres to this guy. Ever again.”
“The thing that kills me with laughter the most is Arsenal fans regretting that we didn’t bring this guy instead of Gyokeres. The reality is both are not good enough, and there’s no hope in them. Leipzig and Lisbon – that’s the highest ceiling they can possibly reach in their careers,” said another.
Another Gooner posted: “This is the Sesko some blind Arsenal fans want. He can’t even start for this United side.
“Ah Gyokeres, I’m sorry,” tweeted another.
Mikel Arteta may not have a great eye for a striker
Almost every player Arteta has signed has come good over the years. But a conversation needs to be had about his striker targets.
Dusan Vlahovic was the first high-profile striker the Arsenal boss wanted, and he has not developed as expected at all. He plays his football in Turkey now.
Gyokeres and Sesko are two other examples, with neither player tearing up the Premier League even though they have been here for over a year.
Perhaps Arteta doesn’t have a good eye for a striker, but the problem for Arsenal is that Andrea Berta seems to fall in the same category.
That is a big concern going into the two transfer windows in 2027.
