Arsenal fans have a lot to say about Jurrien Timber's performance vs Sunderland

Jurrien Timber made his long-awaited return to the Arsenal side following his injury.

The Dutch international last featured for the Gunners in the Champions League final at the end of last season, and he even underwent a minor procedure in the summer.

Arsenal fans were delighted to see Timber named on the bench for the game against Sunderland, and the defender was forced to come on a lot sooner than he would’ve expected.

Ben White suffered what looked like a groin injury and had to come off at half-time. Timber replaced him and played the whole of the second half, and he was very, very impressive.

Arsenal fans react to Jurrien Timber’s performance vs Sunderland

Ben White’s impressive start to the season had made many people forget just how good a player Jurrien Timber really is.

The former Ajax man was widely regarded as the best right-back in the world before his injury, and his performance against Sunderland showed exactly why.

One Arsenal fan tweeted: “Timber is actually insane, and I feel stupid for forgetting just how good he is. The solidity on the RHS when he came on was so strong. No better defender at RB than him.”

Another wrote: “White generates good football, and the trio with Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka is one of the best in the sport. But when Timber steps on the pitch and shows the intent and aggression that White lacks a lot of the time, it’s incredibly refreshing.”

“Months out and he produces this in his first 45 minutes back. Unbelievable,” said another.

Another Gooner reacted by saying: “Timber is one of the best players in our squad. It’s insane we’ve missed him for six months. He’s a top-two right-back in the world.”

“Game changer for us. One of a kind,” wrote another.

Arsenal find themselves in a familiar problem at right-back

Arsenal’s right-back position must be cursed.

White and Timber are up there with the very best in their position in world football, but for some reason, they are struggling to stay fit together for a long period.

When the Englishman was out injured, Timber had to play every game. That resulted in fatigue, which may have contributed to his own fitness issues. The same has happened the other way around as well.

Now that Timber is back, White seems to have suffered an injury, and Mikel Arteta has the same problem again now at right-back.

The Arsenal manager needs to find a way to fix this sooner rather than later.
