Arsenal fans are loving what Jurgen Klopp has just decided to do with Kai Havertz

The new two-week Autumn international break is approaching.

In previous seasons, there have been three international breaks before Christmas — one in September, one in October, one in November. However, this season, the September and October breaks have been merged into a single 16-day period, where national teams will have four games rather than the traditional two.

Arsenal, being one of the best teams in Europe, naturally have a lot of players who will be going away for these international breaks. And unfortunately for Mikel Arteta, some may play up to four games before they come back to London Colney, where they will obviously be at risk of injury.

After a couple of injury-ravaged campaigns, the Arsenal manager will be praying the likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Riccardo Calafiori and Kai Havertz can stay fit through these breaks.

Thanks to Germany manager Jurgen Klopp, Havertz won’t be expected to play four games.

Kai Havertz will get a week off before Arsenal’s game vs Leeds

The former Liverpool manager has taken an unusually sensible approach to the upcoming international break, by splitting his Germany squad across two separate sets of fixtures rather than naming one group for all four games.

Havertz has been called up for Germany’s home games against the Netherlands and Greece, but has been left out of the squad for the away trips to Serbia and Greece the following week.

That effectively means Havertz gets a full week off in the middle of the international break, returning to London Colney to rest, recover and prepare for Arsenal’s Premier League return against Leeds on 10 October rather than spending a fortnight on international duty.

Having watched Havertz manage knee and muscle injuries over the past couple of seasons, and seeing how heavily he is being leaned on this season, Arsenal fans are relieved.

Havertz has already scored three goals for Arsenal this season and is central to everything Arteta’s side do in the final third. When he plays, Arsenal simply play better football. But he has a history of breaking down during a congested schedule.

A week’s rest in the middle of the international break could prove invaluable as the two-games-a-week schedule kicks in from October onwards. Arsenal fans probably didn’t expect to be thanking Jurgen Klopp, but here we are.
