Arsenal announce signing of highly-rated young striker

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Vincent Joseph from Liverpool.

The striker, who can also operate as an attacking midfielder, joins from Liverpool where he had been since his pre-academy days. Despite Liverpool offering him a scholarship contract this summer to stay, Joseph chose to move to North London, which required a tribunal to resolve the compensation fee between the two clubs.

That tribunal has clearly now been settled in Arsenal’s favour.

It’s a big win for the Gunners having missed out on Will Wright to Liverpool last year in a straight battle between the two clubs.

Joseph made his breakthrough into U18 football last season, scoring three goals in two appearances for Liverpool, including a long-range last-minute winner against Nottingham Forest. Considering he was still under 16 at the time, that is really impressive. It has been said that many felt he could have been given that opportunity earlier, with injuries to other strikers in Liverpool’s academy creating the opening.

His England U16 record is impressive too, having scored eight goals in nine appearances across the 2025-26 campaign. Interestingly, Joseph has also represented Germany at youth level, though he has not done so for over a year. Which nation he ultimately commits to at senior level will be one to watch as his career develops.

As for what Arsenal are actually getting, Joseph is mainly a centre-forward with a strong frame and the ability to play with his back to goal. He started out as an attacking midfielder at younger age groups before transitioning into a number nine role in his final 18 months at Liverpool, and it is in that position where he has really caught the eye.

His older brother Valentin is also a striker, who recently signed for Brighton.

Joseph joins Arsenal’s scholarship intake that also includes Igor Tyjon, Mylo Bernard and Axel Donczew, as Pascal De Maesschalck continues his work as academy director.
