Arsenal 27yo receives international call-up, but only for 2 of 4 games

Following his strong form for Arsenal in the early stages of the 2026/27 campaign, it’s no real surprise to see Kai Havertz has been included in Jurgen Klopp’s first squad in charge of the German national team.

The DFB confirmed the squad list on Thursday morning, and the surprise was that Havertz has only been called up for two of the four matches.

In a welcome move, Klopp has decided to split the extended two-week break in two, naming one squad for the first two matches, and one for the second two matches.

Havertz will be involved for the initial two games away to the Netherlands and at home against Greece, but he’ll then be free to take a week off while Germany play Serbia at home and rematch Greece away.

The fixtures are all competitive Nations League matches, but Klopp has evidently decided he doesn’t need his top players to be playing all four games in a row.

Arsenal will certainly be pleased with the decision, which will allow Havertz a full 13 days between his last Germany match of the break and his next club fixture.

There’s a chance Havertz will be facing off against some of his Arsenal teammates over the break, with Jurrien Timber and Christos Tzolis in with a good shot at involvement for the Netherlands and Greece.

With any luck, those two will be used just as sparingly by their national team managers.
