Andy Burnham responds when asked if Man City should be stripped of titles amid potential Arsenal award

There’s only one story anyone is talking about in the Premier League right now – Manchester City’s financial charges.

The bombshell dropped on Friday after it was reported that City have been found guilty on 114 charges of financial misconduct by the Premier League, and now, pending appeal, punishment awaits the Cityzens.

At the moment, it’s unclear what punishment City will face, it could be anything from a hefty fine to relegation, and potentially even being stripped of titles.

It’s unclear how the idea of stripping titles would work, or even which titles would be stripped, but if City were to be stripped of all eight of their Premier League crowns, Arsenal would potentially be due a couple of titles in return.

Now, speaking to ITV, UK Prime Minister, Andy Burnham has shared his verdict on City potentially having their titles taken from them.

Andy Burnham responds to Man City question amid Arsenal claims

Burnham was asked about the idea of Man City being stripped of their Premier League titles.

Unfortunately, the Prime Minister did give a classic politician’s answer, refusing to answer yes or no, but he didn’t rule out the possibility, claiming that the report does need to be studied further.

“Do you think they should be stripped of their titles?”  Burnham was asked.

“I would have to look at the report of the independent commission. People shouldn’t jump to those kind of conclusions. I know this has been a long process between the club and the Premier League, I think quite a contested process. So I don’t think it’s as simple as jumping to conclusions. I think we would all need to study the independent commission’s report in some considerable detail before reaching any conclusions,” Burnham said.

At the moment, it is still very much up in the air what will happen to Man City and the trophies they have won, but there’s certainly a lot of noise around the idea they could be stripped of their titles, and there is an outside chance that means Arsenal will be handed some extra trophies.
