Can Konsa keep Saliba out of the Arsenal team?

Ezri Konsa has joined Arsenal from Aston Villa, and the Gunners believe they now have proper cover for William Saliba, who has been given an extended break from football to recover from his back problem.

The Frenchman is an undisputed starter at the Emirates, where he has formed a solid partnership with Gabriel. Some believe that partnership is the best in England and Europe.

However, Arsenal did not have players capable of pushing Saliba to perform even better until they added Konsa to their squad during this transfer window.

Konsa Provides Arsenal With Quality Cover

The Englishman has plenty of pedigree in the Premier League and won the Europa League last season with Aston Villa, making him an important signing for the Gunners.

With Saliba on the sidelines, Konsa is expected to partner Gabriel at the heart of Arsenal’s defence in the coming weeks. However, John Terry believes that even when Saliba returns, Konsa will keep his place in the team because he is good enough to play for the Gunners.

Terry Makes Big Konsa Claim

He said via Mirror Football:

“That’s a massive signing. I think even when William Saliba is back fit, he doesn’t get back in the Arsenal team, I think Ezri Konsa is that good.

“I worked with him at Aston Villa and he’s so aggressive but also happy to play on the halfway line because if it goes in behind he’s quick enough to get there and recover. He’s a really, really good player.”

Terry’s comments underline the quality Arsenal have added to their defensive options with Konsa’s arrival. The former Aston Villa defender’s experience and ability could give the Gunners greater competition in central defence.

While Saliba remains one of Arsenal’s most important defenders, Konsa could now provide genuine competition for his place rather than simply acting as cover during his absence.

Arsenal will hope Saliba can return to full fitness soon, but Konsa’s arrival gives them another high-quality option at the back. If Terry’s prediction proves correct, the competition between the two defenders could become an important part of Arsenal’s season.
