Alan Shearer picks three Arsenal stars in PL Team of the Week including £27m ace
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has picked three Arsenal stars in his Premier League Team of the Week.
The Gunners continued their perfect start to the season with a 2-1 comeback victory over Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.
Kai Havertz scored the equaliser in the first half against his former club before Martin Ødegaard’s early winner after the interval.
The pair have been in brilliant form this campaign and have now scored three goals apiece in all competitions for the club.
Unsurprisingly, Shearer has picked the Arsenal duo in his Premier League Team of the Week, which also includes Gabriel Magalhaes.
Magalhaes, who was signed for £27 million from Lille in 2020, has transformed into one of the world’s most reliable centre-backs. He produced another fine showing in the derby.
The Brazilian star made four recoveries and five clearances against the Blues, but we would have personally selected Ezri Konsa over him.
Konsa made his full Gunners debut at the weekend. He won an impressive eight duels and had a superb passing accuracy of 95 percent.
The main highlight was his brilliant sliding tackle on Morgan Rogers, for which he received a huge ovation from the faithful at the Emirates.
The Premier League holders faced a huge test of their title credentials after Rogers opened the scoring in just the second minute on Sunday.
Arsenal have generally tended to struggle after conceding first, but they stepped up to the occasion to secure a memorable comeback win.
Goalkeeper David Raya did not make Shearer’s Team of the Week, but he needs to be lauded after his sensational fingertip save to deny Estevao.
The Brazilian wonderkid looked primed to make the headlines with a superb late curling equaliser, but Raya showed why he is one of the world’s best.
Alongside Havertz, Odegaard and Gabriel, Shearer chose Mikel Arteta as the Manager of the Week after guiding the club to a three-straight league win this term.
With the victory, Arsenal are second in the league standings behind Manchester City, who are only ahead on goals scored after three games into the season.
The Gunners face Sunderland in their next league game at the Stadium of Light on Saturday before the Cityzens take on arch-rivals Manchester United away on Sunday.
Before that, Arsenal have a tricky Champions League opener at Serie A giants Napoli on Wednesday. Man City will be in action against Porto on the road tonight.
