Arsenal suffer another transfer setback as £85m-rated target may now be unattainable
Arsenal-linked forward Kenan Yildiz could reportedly be sidelined for around two months after suffering a foot injury during Juventus’ opening Serie A fixture of the season.
The 21-year-old started as Juventus secured a 1-0 victory away to newly-promoted Frosinone on Sunday, with Bremer’s first-half header earning Luciano Spalletti’s side three points.
However, Yildiz subsequently reported a problem with his left foot and underwent examinations at Juventus’ J Medical facility on Monday.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the results have caused concern within the Italian club, with surgery among the options currently being considered.
A decision has yet to be made over whether an operation will be necessary, but the Turkey international could reportedly spend approximately two months on the sidelines.
The development comes at a particularly unfortunate time for Yildiz, who had only recently recovered from the knee problem that affected the latter stages of last season and his World Cup campaign.
Yildiz managed 69 minutes against Frosinone before being replaced by Jeremie Boga and had threatened to score shortly before half-time, only to be denied by goalkeeper Lorenzo Palmisani.
His potential absence would represent a considerable setback for Juventus, who have built much of their attacking plans around their number 10.
Spalletti underlined Yildiz’s importance before the opening game amid speculation surrounding his future, describing him as a €100 million (£85m) player with the potential to become a major figure in world football.
The injury could also have implications for Arsenal as the closing stages of the transfer window approach.
The Gunners have explored whether a late deal for the versatile attacker could be possible, although Juventus’ reluctance to lose one of their prized young players already made negotiations challenging.
Any significant injury would add another major complication, particularly if Yildiz requires an operation and faces a lengthy rehabilitation period.
Arsenal have already strengthened their wide options with Christos Tzolis this summer but continue to be linked with attacking reinforcements as uncertainty surrounds Gabriel Martinelli’s future.
Yildiz’s immediate priority will now be discovering the severity of his injury, with Juventus assessing whether surgery or a more conservative recovery programme represents the best course of action.
