Arsenal earn eight nominations at 2026 Ballon d’Or awards

Arsenal and Mikel Arteta have been shortlisted for honours at this year’s Ballon d’Or awards following the club’s Premier League triumph and run to the Champions League final.

The Gunners are in contention for Men’s Club of the Year, while Arteta has been nominated for the Men’s Coach of the Year award.

Several Arsenal players are also in the running for individual honours. Declan Rice, Gabriel and William Saliba have all been included on the 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist, with David Raya nominated for the Yashin Trophy, awarded to the world’s best goalkeeper.

Arsenal Women forwards Mariona Caldentey and Alessia Russo are among the nominees for the Ballon d’Or Feminin.

The 70th edition of the prestigious awards ceremony will take place in London on 26 October. Presented annually by France Football, which is owned by L’Equipe Group, the event has been co-organised with UEFA since 2024.

This year’s choice of venue is also a nod to English football history. Sir Stanley Matthews won the inaugural Ballon d’Or 70 years ago, becoming the first recipient of the award in 1956.
