Shearer says Arsenal will retain the title if they sign this player

Alan Shearer believes there will be no stopping Arsenal if the Gunners manage to add Julian Alvarez to their squad this summer as they pursue a deal for his signature.

The Argentinian has remained one of the top players in the world and believes the time has come for him to leave Atletico Madrid. The Spanish side does not want that, but the drama is taking a new turn, and they might opt to cut ties with him before this window closes.

Barcelona stand in Arsenal’s way

Barcelona is the club Alvarez wants to join, but the Catalans are not a team that Atletico want to work with and insist they will not allow him to move to the La Liga champions. This means he could be sold to a foreign club, which is why Arsenal have a good chance of signing him before the window shuts, especially if he remains uncomfortable at the club.

Alvarez is not so keen to return to England; however, it could be his only choice, and that would be fantastic news for Arsenal. A move to the Gunners would give them another high-quality attacking option as they look to strengthen their squad.

The situation at Atletico could therefore work in Arsenal’s favour. If the Spanish side remain unwilling to sell Alvarez to Barcelona, they may have to consider other destinations, potentially allowing the Gunners to secure his signature.

Shearer sees Arsenal winning the title

As quoted by Mirror Football, Shearer believes Arsenal could effectively end the Premier League title race if they manage to complete a deal for Alvarez.

“We’ve heard of a lot of pushing from Barcelona and the reluctance from Atletico.

“It seems like their thinking might be, ‘if we have to sell, we’re not selling to you [Barcelona]‘.

“There’s just maybe a small opportunity or a small window there for Arsenal to nab him, you would think. And if they do it’s done by the way [the Premier League title race ].”

Shearer’s comments highlight the potential impact Alvarez could have at Arsenal. The Gunners are already considered one of the strongest teams in the Premier League, and adding a player of Alvarez’s quality could make them even more difficult to stop.

For Arsenal, the coming days could prove crucial. If Atletico decide that Alvarez must leave and continue to block a move to Barcelona, the Gunners could have a genuine opportunity to bring him back to England.
