Declan Rice accused of doing “the most annoying thing in the world”

Declan Rice clashed with Morgan Rogers when Arsenal faced Chelsea over the weekend, and the midfielder was not penalised despite Rogers being clearly livid about the incident.

The two midfielders are international teammates and have performed well for their respective club and country in recent seasons, so they may also have a cordial relationship away from the pitch. However, when representing different teams, they were opponents and worked as hard as possible to help their side win, with Rice coming out on top this time.

Chelsea started the match well, with Rogers scoring the opening goal, but the Gunners fought back to secure victory and demonstrated why many people believe they can retain the Premier League title. The Gunners will face more difficult matches as the season progresses, and Rice may consider himself fortunate to have escaped a red card following his clash with Rogers. The incident left his international teammate frustrated, while Paul Scholes believes Rice did something particularly annoying to the Chelsea midfielder.

Scholes suggested there could be some history between the pair and questioned whether something had happened during the summer. He also explained why Rice’s action would have been particularly frustrating for Rogers, as quoted by the Metro:

‘Do you think there’s a little bit of something between Morgan Rogers and Declan Rice?

‘Do you think there might have been a little bit of something during the summer?

‘What Declan Rice did to him was the most annoying thing in the world. When people just leg you up when you’re running.

‘He snapped Morgan Rogers and rightly so.’

Rice ultimately helped the Gunners secure the victory, but the clash with Rogers provided an additional talking point from the match. The incident also demonstrated how competitive the battle was between the two midfielders despite their international connection.

For Arsenal, the result was the most important outcome, particularly after falling behind early in the game. Rice will now look to continue contributing for the Gunners as they face further challenges in their pursuit of another Premier League title.
