94% passing, 5 duels won, 1 goal: 30-touch Arsenal star impresses on Int'l duty, he could start vs Leeds United

Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres had a good performance for Sweden during their 2-1 victory over Romania in their Nations League opener.

Sweden started their Nations League campaign at home last night. Alexander Isak opened the scoring, but Dennis Man levelled for Romania soon after.

However, the hosts took the lead before the interval through Gyokeres. The 28-year-old capitalised on a rebound to score the decisive winning goal for Sweden.

It was a tame effort on target from the Gunners ace, but his shot was helped into the back of the net by the defender following a poor headed clearance.

Gyokeres won’t mind the nature of the goal. It should be a confidence booster for him, having been a regular on the bench in the Premier League this term.

Sweden still have three matches against Poland, Bosnia & Herzegovina (away) and Romania (away) before the international break concludes early next month.

Gyokeres and Isak are undisputed starters as a front two, and they will no doubt feature against those teams. Arsenal will hope their striker stays unscathed.

Aside from his goal, the Swede had a passing accuracy of 94 percent, winning five duels. He had 30 touches in the game and induced three fouls from Romania.

Meanwhile, Kai Havertz picked up a hamstring injury while playing for Germany against the Netherlands, and he could be doubtful for the next league game against Leeds United on October 10.

Gyokeres has played just 29 minutes off the bench in two league matches, but he could be entrusted to lead the line against Leeds, whom he has scored against three times in just two appearances.
