Arsenal’s move for Pedro Neto is pointless, he’d be just another Noni Madueke

Everyone who follows Arsenal knows that a new wide player is on the wishlist for Mikel Arteta.

After seemingly missing out on signing Vinicius Jr, the Gunners have so far settled on just Christos Tzolis but there are irons in the fire with other players it seems.

One of the latest names emerging is that of Chelsea winger, Pedro Neto.

Neto has had an up and down time of things since sealing a big money move from Wolves, with a brutal injury not helping his cause in any way either.

Arsenal, though, are apparently keen on the Portuguese star.

However, with the aims Arsenal have in mind right now, there are surely better options out there than Neto?

Arsenal need to be aiming higher than Pedro Neto

There are a few reasons why you can see why Arsenal like the idea of Neto.

He is quick, direct, can play either side and at 26, he should be about to enter the prime years of his career.

However, there are also some straight facts that show Neto may not be up to the standard required to take Arsenal to the next level.

Firstly, Neto is a winger that has never once broken the 10 goals barrier in a season. Not once. In fact, he hasn’t managed to score more than five in a single campaign, a figure he matched last season while finally playing regularly.

At international level, he again only has three goals in 30 caps. Those sorts of baseline stat are just not good enough for a club like Arsenal.

In terms of assists, again, he hasn’t ever registered double figures in a season, with his best being the nine he got in 23/24 campaign with Wolves that earned him his move to Stamford Bridge.

While not directly criticising the current Arsenal wingers, one of the big problems with Gabriel Martinelli and Noni Madueke is they don’t score enough goals.

Surely, then, replacing one of them or adding to them with a winger who also doesn’t score very often makes no sense?

For the money being touted – over £70m – Arsenal should simply walk away from any deal with Neto.
