Swansea City Close In On Manchester City Winger Jeremy Monga As Leo Walta Heads For MLS Exit
Swansea City are on the verge of completing the loan signing of Manchester City teenager Jeremy Monga ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
The 17-year-old winger is set to travel to south Wales to undergo a medical before finalising a season-long loan move from the Premier League champions.
Monga is a product of Leicester City’s academy and made his senior debut as a 15-year-old during the 2024-25 campaign, showing remarkable maturity for his age.
He featured 30 times for Leicester in the Championship last season before signing a five-year deal with Manchester City earlier this summer.
During his time at the Foxes, Monga became the youngest goalscorer in Championship history when he netted against Preston North End in August last year.
Manchester City director of football Hugo Viana hailed the teenager as an “exciting player” upon completing the deal, adding that he has “already made huge strides in his young career”.
The England Under-19 international will now spend the remainder of the current campaign on loan with Vitor Matos’ Swansea side.
While Monga arrives, Finland international Leo Walta is set to depart on loan to Major League Soccer side Los Angeles after being omitted from the matchday squad for Saturday’s 3-0 win at Derby County.
Walta joined Swansea on an initial loan from Swedish outfit Sirius in February before the move was made permanent earlier this summer, but his sole league appearance this season came as a late substitute in the opening day win at Stoke City.
The 23-year-old made 10 league appearances in the latter stages of the 2025-26 season and scored his only goal for the club in a 3-1 victory over Charlton Athletic on the final day of the campaign.
Swansea are also closing in on the signing of Huddersfield Town midfielder Tom Iorpenda as Matos continues to reshape his squad during the window.
The Swans have already added Elijah Just, Moussa Yeo, and Joseph Opoku to their wide options this summer, giving the Welsh club plenty of attacking flexibility going forward.
Swansea’s midfield has seen significant upheaval in recent months, with Ethan Galbraith sold to Championship rivals Stoke City and Goncalo Franco sidelined until October following ankle surgery.
Matos bolstered his central options by recruiting Canada international Stephen Eustaquio from Porto, with the experienced midfielder adding quality and depth in the middle of the park.
The Swans also have Jay Fulton, Melker Widell, and Marko Stamenic available in midfield, while summer signing Moussa Yeo can operate as an attacking midfielder when required.
Swansea, who remain unbeaten in the league this season, return to Championship action against Watford at the Swansea.com Stadium on Tuesday night.
