Arsenal told striker Unai Emery released for free is now even better than Viktor Gyokeres

Viktor Gyokeres has come under a lot of criticism since joining Arsenal.

The Swede came in with a reputation as one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe, scoring 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting CP.

Gyokeres scored 21 goals in all competitions and helped Arsenal win the Premier League, but some people still don’t seem to rate him highly.

One such person is Jamie O’Hara, who has made a bold claim now.

Jamie O’Hara says Danny Welbeck is a better striker than Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres

Danny Welbeck spent five years at Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger signed the English striker from Manchester United in 2014, and he stayed at the club until the end of Unai Emery’s debut season.

In 2019, Welbeck was released by Arsenal after injuries continuously disrupted his career.

Since leaving the Gunners, Welbeck has starred for Watford and Brighton, and earlier this summer, he secured a shock move to Chelsea at the age of 35.

Welbeck deserves all the credit for the way he has performed in recent years, but O’Hara has gone as far as saying he’s better than Viktor Gyokeres of Arsenal.

When Jason Cundy claimed that Arsenal could win the Champions League, O’Hara replied on talkSPORT: “Nah, they ain’t winning the Champions League.

“I know they got to a final, but at this moment in time, their front three are probably not as good. It’s not as good as last season’s.

“Mate, Danny Welbeck is better than Gyokeres. He’s unbelievable, Danny Welbeck. His stats are brilliant.

“Danny Welbeck scored 13 goals last season and he got six assists. He had a great season. He’s better than Gyokeres. Danny Welbeck would be playing in front of Gyokeres.”

Is Danny Welbeck really better than Viktor Gyokeres?

Welbeck is brilliant, and we really like him, but saying he is better than Gyokeres is not right at all.

O’Hara has got his stats wrong. Welbeck provided just one assist in the Premier League last season – not six. He directly contributed to 14 goals in the league and 16 in all competitions.

Gyokeres, on the other hand, scored 21 goals and provided three assists in his first-ever season in the English top-flight in an Arsenal team where he had to play almost three times every week.

Welbeck deserves every bit of praise he gets, but O’Hara saying he is better than Gyokeres is just a ridiculous statement.
