Gabriel Martinelli Set To Complete Al-Hilal Move Despite Missing Premier League Deadline Day
Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli is still expected to complete his move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal despite no confirmation arriving on Premier League deadline day.
Tuesday’s transfer deadline came and went with several Arsenal deals confirmed, but a notable absence was any official announcement regarding Martinelli’s departure.
James McNicholas of The Athletic has reported that the move remains on track, with no expectation it would be completed specifically on the Premier League’s deadline.
The Saudi Pro League transfer window remains open until September 6th, giving both clubs sufficient time to finalise the remaining details of the agreement.
Martinelli is reportedly set to undergo a medical imminently before putting pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Saudi club.
David Ornstein reported for The Athletic that Arsenal and Al-Hilal were close to finalising a €70m (£60m) transfer, with no add-on payments included in the deal.
James Benge also reported that progress has been made ironing out the details of a sell-on clause, which could provide Arsenal with additional funds further down the line.
The deal represents Arsenal’s club-record sale, a figure that reflects strong negotiating on this occasion as well as past failures to secure comparable fees for departing players.
Martinelli spent seven years at the Emirates, making 278 appearances and scoring 62 goals from the left wing since joining as a teenager.
The 25-year-old Brazilian lifted the Premier League, FA Cup, and Community Shield during his time in north London, extending his contract on multiple occasions despite persistent interest from other clubs.
However, manager Mikel Arteta made his intentions clear by leaving Martinelli out of the matchday squad for each of the first three Premier League fixtures of the current season.
With the Saudi window still open and a medical reportedly scheduled, Martinelli’s move to Al-Hilal now appears to be in its final stages and almost certain to go through.
