Arsenal set for bonus cash windfall as former player set for £20m transfer

Arsenal set for bonus cash windfall as former player set for £20m transfer

Arsenal are still working away in the transfer market both in terms of incomings and outgoings but they could now get some money by doing nothing.

The Gunners have long been criticised for selling players at what many regard to be lower than market value.

Still, that doesn’t mean the club always gets it wrong and a lot of the time, Arsenal ensure they insert sell-on clauses at a minimum to protect themselves at least a little bit.

Now, it looks like one of those sell-on clauses is about to pay off.

Arsenal could land £4m as Nuno Tavares looks to leave Lazio

One of the poorer signings of the Mikel Arteta era was that of Nuno Tavares.

Without being too harsh, he was simply never up to the standard required for the Premier League and it was little surprise to anyone when he was shifted on.

However, as part of the deal that took him to Lazio on a permanent basis, Arsenal inserted a sell-on which could now land them as much as £4m.

Tavares is hoping to join Porto this summer after falling out of favour at Lazio and publicly disassociating himself with the Rome club.

It’s believed Lazio want around £20m for Tavares to leave, meaning Arsenal would bring some more money into the club.

That may not sound like a lot in Premier League money but £4m is a big chunk of good salary for a potential new signing or even a new contract for a key player.

In the end, Tavares might not have worked out for Arsenal but if he does get his move to Portugal, then the Gunners will done quite alright out of the deal anyway.

Fingers crossed this one does actually go through.
