Arsenal latest: Julian Alvarez saga takes fresh twist and transfer deal struck for striker

The final hours of the summer transfer window are upon us, and for Arsenal, various deals are now being wrapped up.
September 1 marks the deadline for all business and Mikel Arteta 's side find themselves at the centre of some of the window's most intriguing sagas. It has been an impressive summer of recruitment at the Emirates Stadium. Sporting director Andrea Berta, who has long favoured working deep into deadline day to extract the best possible terms, has overseen five new arrivals.
Piero Hincapie joined in a £34.5million permanent deal, goalkeeper Illan Meslier arrived on a free transfer, winger Christos Tzolis cost £34m, midfielder Bruno Guimaraes was signed for £75m, and defender Ezri Konsa for £55m. The outgoings column has been equally busy: Leandro Trossard left the club, and Gabriel Martinelli will follow him through the exit door.

Jesus is reportedly on the verge of completing a transfer to Barcelona. The Brazilian, 29, has been the subject of exit speculation throughout this summer after being deemed surplus to requirements by Arteta.
Fabrizio Romano has now reported that the Gunners have agreed an £8.57m offer from the Spanish champions for Jesus' signature, with add-ons also included in the deal, as per the Italian journalist.
Jesus is due to undergo a medical on Monday ahead of his switch to Camp Nou. The former Manchester City man has been training separately from Arteta's first-team squad since being made available for transfer, having initially been touted for a move to Napoli.

Julian Alvarez took part in Atletico Madrid training on Sunday despite ongoing speculation regarding his future. The Argentine, who has been among Arsenal's main targets in recent months, was absent from three team training sessions last week due to what the club described as an "indisposition", before training individually on Friday.
He was also omitted from Diego Simeone's squad for Saturday's 3-1 victory at Sevilla. Whether his reintroduction to the fold signals that the 26-year-old has opted to remain in the Spanish capital beyond the transfer deadline is yet to be seen.
Alvarez had made it clear from the outset that his desire was to join Barcelona this summer. However, after Atletico blocked his proposed switch to their La Liga rivals, Arsenal emerged as the most likely alternative, with Atleti willing to sanction a £128m departure for their frustrated talisman.
Reports suggested he had been given until Sunday to decide whether to commit to a move to Arsenal or remain at the club, though more recent reports indicated that Alvarez had no desire to return to England.
