Forget Julian Alvarez, Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal have made contact to sign another Atletico Madrid star

Forget Julian Alvarez, Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal have made contact to sign another Atletico Madrid star

Arsenal fans are waiting with bated breath to see what happens between Julian Alvarez and Atletico Madrid this summer.

The World Cup winner has been a target for the Gunners for a long time now, and his future at the Metropolitano is up in the air.

Alvarez’s dream destination is Barcelona, but Atletico Madrid have categorically ruled out selling him to the Catalans.

That opens the door for Arsenal to land Alvarez, but he isn’t the only Atleti player they are interested in.

Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal are interested in signing Marc Pubill from Atletico Madrid

Arsenal are on the market for a new defender this summer.

The Gunners will be without William Saliba for the first few months of the campaign, while Jurrien Timber is also a few weeks away from full fitness.

Arsenal could ideally do with a player who can play both as a centre-half and at right-back, and they have been linked with a few names who check that box.

Ezri Konsa is making the most noise among Arsenal targets, but Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Marc Pubill of Atletico Madrid is also someone who is really liked by the North Londoners.

Speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Another name really appreciated by Arsenal is Marc Pubill from Atletico Madrid.

“Marc Pubill is one of the names on Arsenal’s list. Arsenal had some contact to understand about the price and to try to understand if there is a chance to sign Marc Pubill.

“He’s super appreciated by Arsenal, but Atletico Madrid absolutely want to keep him. So, at the moment, Marc Pubill looks like a difficult target.”

Arsenal could turn Marc Pubill’s head with a high salary offer

Pubill only joined Atletico Madrid last year, and he had an excellent debut season. So, it is understandable why they don’t want to sell him.

However, the 23-year-old Spaniard is one of Atleti’s lowest earners, with a gross weekly salary of €28,077, which is the equivalent of around £24,000 a week. (Capology)

Arsenal can easily quadruple that figure without thinking twice, and that could potentially turn Pubill’s head and make him consider a move to the Emirates.

However, with four years still left on his contract, Atletico Madrid hold all the cards, and it will not be easy to convince them to let him go.
